This itinerary is designed for the savvy traveler who wants to experience the best of Cambodia in two weeks, optimizing for both adventure and relaxation. We'll start with the ancient and artistic north before making our way to the islands and finishing our journey in the bustling capital, ready for departure.

2-Week Cambodia Itinerary

Phase 1: History, Art & Ancient Kingdoms

Siem Reap (4 days)

Start your trip here to explore the temples and the vibrant city. Four days is enough to see the essentials and get a feel for the place.

  • Day 1-2: Dedicate your first two days to the Angkor temples. Start with a sunrise tour of Angkor Wat and explore the main circuit, focusing on the highlights like Ta Prohm and Bayon.

  • Day 3: Take a day trip to see a different side of the temples, like the intricate carvings of Banteay Srei or the wild ruins of Beng Mealea.

  • Day 4: Explore the city, visit a local market, and relax by the pool at The Place Hostel Siem Reap before heading to your next destination.

Battambang (2 days)

Take a bus from Siem Reap to Cambodia's artistic hub. You'll have a full day here to experience the unique charm.

  • Day 1 (Arrival): Take a bus from Siem Reap to Battambang and check into The Place Hostel Battambang. Settle in and explore the city's beautiful French colonial architecture before a good night's sleep.

  • Day 2 (Full Day Tour): This is your day for a big adventure. Book a tour to see the famous bamboo train, visit a local farm, and end the day at the bat caves to witness the spectacular sunset. Afterward, have a final dinner before heading to the bus station for your night bus to the coast.

Phase 2: Islands, Coast & Final Stop

Southern Islands (3 days)

Take a night bus from Battambang to Sihanoukville. This saves you a full day of travel and allows you to arrive on the coast in the morning, ready to catch a fast ferry to your island paradise.

  • Day 1-3: Head to an island like Koh Rong Sanloem. Take a fast ferry for a few days of pure bliss. Settle into a beach bungalow, go snorkeling, and enjoy the pristine white sand beaches and clear water. This is the perfect way to recharge.

Kampot & Kep (3 days)

This is an insider tip! Instead of heading back to Sihanoukville, you can take a direct boat from Koh Rong Sanloem to Kampot. This scenic route is an excellent way to travel.

  • Day 1: Arrive by boat in Kampot. Settle into this charming town, known for its famous pepper plantations and riverside charm.

  • Day 2: Explore Bokor National Park by scooter or simply relax by the river.

  • Day 3: Take a quick trip to Kep to enjoy its tranquil atmosphere and fresh seafood before heading to Phnom Penh.

Phnom Penh (2 days)

Take a bus from Kampot to Phnom Penh for the final leg of your journey. This route brings you back to the capital for your departure.

  • Day 1: Arrive in Phnom Penh. Check in, and visit the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda. Walk along the riverfront in the evening and grab a bite to eat.

  • Day 2: Dedicate your final day to learning about Cambodia’s history at the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and the Killing Fields. It's a powerful and essential experience before you leave the country.
