WEEK 1: TEMPLES & CULTURAL IMMERSION IN SIEM REAP

Siem Reap – 6 days

Siem Reap is your gateway to the ancient world, but it’s a modern city with a personality all its own. While the iconic temples of Angkor will undoubtedly be the highlight, dedicating a full six days allows you to explore the city and surrounding areas without feeling rushed.

  • Day 1-3: The Temples of Angkor. Start with the classic circuit: a sunrise visit to Angkor Wat, followed by the jungle-clad ruins of Ta Prohm (the "Tomb Raider" temple) and the majestic Bayon Temple with its smiling stone faces. On day two, venture to the Grand Circuit to see Preah Khan and Neak Pean. On day three, get off the beaten path! Consider a trip to Banteay Srei, the "Citadel of the Women," famous for its intricate red sandstone carvings, or the sprawling, unrestored Beng Mealea, a truly wild temple consumed by the jungle.

  • Day 4: Floating Villages & Local Life. Take a boat trip to one of the floating villages on Tonle Sap Lake, such as Kompong Phluk. It’s a powerful and humbling experience to see entire communities living on the water.

  • Day 5: The Arts & Night Market. By night, Siem Reap comes alive! Catch a performance at the Phare Cambodian Circus, a fantastic social enterprise that combines acrobatics, dance, and theater to tell local stories. Afterward, browse the Old Market and Night Market for authentic souvenirs and street food.

  • Where to stay: The Place Hostel Siem Reap is your perfect home base. After a long day of exploring, you'll love relaxing by the pool, swapping stories with fellow travelers, and enjoying the lively social atmosphere.

WEEK 2: VIBRANT ARTS & LIVING HISTORY

Battambang – 4 days

Travel south to Battambang, Cambodia's artistic hub. This city moves at a slower pace and is ideal for travelers who want a deeper dive into local life.

  • Day 1: Colonial Charm. Spend your first day wandering through the city, admiring the well-preserved French colonial architecture and discovering hidden art galleries and coffee shops.

  • Day 2: The Art Scene. Battambang is a mecca for artists. Take a tuk-tuk tour of the countryside, visiting local workshops where artisans create intricate rice paper, fresh spring rolls, and traditional pottery. Be sure to visit Phare Ponleu Selpak, the famous circus and art school, to catch a show that empowers the next generation of Cambodian artists.

  • Day 3: The Bamboo Train & Bat Caves. Embrace the unique chaos of the bamboo train (Norry), a truly unforgettable ride on a bamboo platform powered by a small engine. In the evening, head to the Killing Caves of Phnom Sampeau to witness the incredible spectacle of millions of bats flying out for their nightly hunt.

  • Where to stay: The Place Hostel Battambang offers a fantastic rooftop where you can enjoy a delicious meal or a cold drink while watching the sunset after a day of cycling and exploring.

Phnom Penh – 3 days

The bustling capital city is a powerful blend of old and new. It's a place to confront history, experience modern city life, and prepare for your beach getaway.

  • Day 1: Royal Grandeur. Begin with a visit to the magnificent Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda, home to a dazzling display of artifacts and a floor made of pure silver.

  • Day 2: A Somber Past. Dedicate a day to understanding Cambodia's recent history. A visit to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S-21) and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek is a moving and necessary experience.

  • Day 3: Modern Phnom Penh. Explore the vibrant street art scene, dine at one of the city's many fantastic restaurants, and enjoy a sunset cruise on the Mekong River.

  • Where to stay: We’re excited to announce that The Place Hostels Phnom Penh will be opening soon, bringing our social and affordable concept to the capital! This will be the perfect place to meet fellow travelers and experience a new social hub for locals and expats.

WEEK 3: BETWEEN NATURE & PARADISE BEACHES

Kampot – 3 days

Head south for a laid-back, riverside escape. Kampot is known for its relaxed atmosphere and stunning scenery.

  • Day 1: Pepper & Salt. Rent a scooter and explore the surrounding countryside. Visit a Kampot pepper plantation to learn about the world-famous spice and its journey from plant to plate. Nearby salt fields also offer a fascinating glimpse into local industry.

  • Day 2: Bokor National Park. Take a day trip to the misty mountains of Bokor, a former French colonial hill station. The journey offers breathtaking views and a chance to explore abandoned buildings.

  • Day 3: Riverside Relaxation. Spend your last day simply unwinding by the river. You can go kayaking, take a cooking class, or just relax in a hammock with a good book.

Koh Rong Sanloem – 4 days

The ultimate reward for your travels! Take a fast ferry to Koh Rong Sanloem, a serene island escape with pristine white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters.

  • Day 1-2: Beach Bliss. Settle into island life. Spend your days swimming, sunbathing, or snorkeling right off the shore. Take a short hike to the island's lighthouse for stunning panoramic views.

  • Day 3: Bioluminescence & Sunset. In the evening, hire a local boat to take you to a spot with calm water. Plunge in and watch as the water lights up with a magical bioluminescent glow—an incredible natural phenomenon.

  • Day 4: Disconnect. This is a day to simply be. Enjoy the quiet moments before you head back to the mainland for your final journey home.

PRACTICAL TIPS FOR YOUR CAMBODIAN ADVENTURE

  • Getting Around: Buses and minivans are the most common way to travel between cities. For local exploration, tuk-tuks are affordable and easy to find. In Kampot and Battambang, renting a bicycle or scooter is a great way to explore at your own pace.

  • Packing: Pack light, breathable clothing. Don't forget reef-safe sunscreen, mosquito repellent, and a reusable water bottle. For visiting temples, remember to bring a light scarf or sarong to cover your knees and shoulders.

  • Money: The local currency is the Riel, but US dollars are widely used and accepted everywhere.

  • Local Apps: Download PassApp for easy tuk-tuk and ride-hailing services in major cities.
